About Albert Victor Lodge

Albert Victor Lodge is a Lodge of Freemasons meeting at Duncombe Place Masonic Hall, York, UK. The Lodge is part of the Masonic Province of Yorkshire North and East Ridings under the authority of the United Grand Lodge of England.

Albert Victor Lodge is the only “one of two Royal Lodges” outside London, a friendly lodge of local and distant freemasons who used to meet in St Saviourgate, York, we now meet at Duncombe Place, near the York Minster.

We welcome good men from all walks of life who want to meet new people, contribute to the local community and learn about the traditions and mysteries of Freemasonry.

In common with all Freemasons, we strive to live good lives, we share an enjoyment of Freemasonry and a unique bond of fellowship. Service is also a core principle of Freemasonry, so, in recent years the lodge has supported local and national charities and local services for homeless people, including the young. A couple worth mentioning are the SASH, Safe & Sound Homes for young people in York. Also, Carecent York. A breakfast centre for all homeless, unemployed and socially excluded members of our community.

We pride ourselves in being supportive of each other, a Lodge with around twenty members ranging in age from 40’s to 80’s. Our members come from all walks of life including HM Services, Medical, Teaching, Local Government, the technology sector and Engineering. Some of our members live in York with others from further afield including Selby, Beverley, Easingwold, Leeds, and Birmingham.

In Freemasonry we meet as equals, and we welcome all eligible men irrespective of their occupation, social status, faith, ethnicity or sexual orientation. Freemasonry is not a religion, although members are required to acknowledge a supreme being, i.e. God.

Our Masonic year starts with the installation of the new Worshipful Master in November each year. At our meetings we perform ceremonies which initiate new members and progress newer members into Masonry while we also learn about Freemasonry and its philosophy.

We meet 6 times a year, Feb, Mar, Apr, then a summer recess of 4 months, we then commence in Sept, Oct and Nov. Dec closed for the Festive Season and no meeting in January as this is the winter month. We meet on a Tuesday evening, the 4th Tuesday in each month, with exception of October, this being the business month, where we meet on the 3rd Tuesday.

The dress code to attend is evening wear (dinner jacket) black bow tie, white gloves this being our standard dress, but depending on the Lodge, some Lodges just wear a dark lounge suit, so it does vary from Lodge to Lodge.

The minimum age to join  Freemasonry is 18.

The cost for joining (Initiation Fee) is £100.00. The annual Lodge subscription is £130.00. The cost of the evening meal after our meeting ( known as the Festive Board) is £18.00.The bar is open after meetings, followed by dinner, where we relax and get to know each other and our guests.

Members are encouraged to attend meetings, rehearsals and social events, if their situation allows and all are supported throughout their masonic journey. During the year there are social events that are arranged where Masons may bring their partners as we encourage social gatherings and family involvement. Also, the partners get a chance to see what we do as Masons.

We thank you for taking the time to visit our website and look forward to maybe meeting some of you in due course.
